Summary

The Silence of the Lambs meets Sadie in this riveting psychological thriller about two teenagers teaming up with the FBI to track down juvenile serial killers。

In 1982, two teenagers—serial killer survivor Emma Lewis and US Marshal candidate Travis Bell—are recruited by the FBI to interview convicted juvenile killers and provide insight and advice on cold cases。 From the start, Emma and Travis develop a quick friendship, gaining information from juvenile murderers that even the FBI can't crack。 But when the team is called in to give advice on an active case—a serial killer who exclusively hunts teenagers—things begin to unravel。 Working against the clock, they must turn to one of the country's most notorious incarcerated murderers for help: teenage sociopath Simon Gutmunsson。

Despite Travis's objections, Emma becomes the conduit between Simon and the FBI team。 But while Simon seems to be giving them the information they need to save lives, he's an expert manipulator playing a very long game。。。and he has his sights set on Emma。

Captivating, harrowing, and chilling, None Shall Sleep is an all-too-timely exploration of not only the monsters that live among us, but also the monsters that live inside us。

Bumping this to a 4。5 solely for the fact that I literally couldn't put this down。This is an utterly captivating, gruesome and heart-pounding thriller perfect for fans of The Silence of the Lambs and any true crime show。 Two teens - a final girl (serial killer survivor) and a US Marshall candidate (whose father was killed by a serial killer) get recruited by the FBI to interview teenage murderers in order to help gain insight for an active investigation of a serial killer targeting teenagers。 Li Bumping this to a 4。5 solely for the fact that I literally couldn't put this down。This is an utterly captivating, gruesome and heart-pounding thriller perfect for fans of The Silence of the Lambs and any true crime show。 Two teens - a final girl (serial killer survivor) and a US Marshall candidate (whose father was killed by a serial killer) get recruited by the FBI to interview teenage murderers in order to help gain insight for an active investigation of a serial killer targeting teenagers。 Like WHAT?! Right off the bat, that was SUCH a fascinating concept and the author did not disappoint。You can tell how much research and dedication went into crafting this story and I was hooked from page one。 The pacing was incredible, the few multi-POV's were so engaging and the twists made me want to throw my book across the room。 I felt like I was right in the middle of the investigation alongside the characters and I loved every second of it regardless of how gory and unsettling it got at times。 Just wow。 SUCH a great book - I HIGHLY recommend。 。。。more

Didn’t realize this was YA when I got it。 And it’s the worst kind of YA, too。 Where the professionals are incompetent, the scenarios are beyond implausible, and the teenagers know more about everything than people who have been working and studying in their the field for years。 Also, of course, it’s derivative。 If you’ve read or watched Silence of the Lambs, you know the plot outline。 It was interesting enough that I wanted to know what happened, though。 By the end, I was listening to the audiob Didn’t realize this was YA when I got it。 And it’s the worst kind of YA, too。 Where the professionals are incompetent, the scenarios are beyond implausible, and the teenagers know more about everything than people who have been working and studying in their the field for years。 Also, of course, it’s derivative。 If you’ve read or watched Silence of the Lambs, you know the plot outline。 It was interesting enough that I wanted to know what happened, though。 By the end, I was listening to the audiobook at 1。7x so that I could get through it and be done。 。。。more

This was really freaking interesting。 It really just dives into the killer psyche and the psyche of surviving victims。 There’s some thick personalities in this one too- especially Simon。 You don’t want to be intrigued but he is very intriguing。 I’d like to have learned more about Emma’s past and how she escaped Huxton。 None the less, it’s a great spooky ready and you’ll be exactly as the title says, none shall sleep。

Great Read for Halloween time! What I Liked:• It felt very mature for YA and included college aged main characters rather than the typical high schooler that’s in most other YA book• The author Ellie Marney had a unique writing style that I enjoyed• I liked the character Agent Cooper。 He seemed like a sort of parent to the teens while with the FBI• The covers really cool What I Disliked:• The first 50 pages are slower but picks up after that。• The f word is used multiple times• Kind of boring yet Great Read for Halloween time! What I Liked:• It felt very mature for YA and included college aged main characters rather than the typical high schooler that’s in most other YA book• The author Ellie Marney had a unique writing style that I enjoyed• I liked the character Agent Cooper。 He seemed like a sort of parent to the teens while with the FBI• The covers really cool What I Disliked:• The first 50 pages are slower but picks up after that。• The f word is used multiple times• Kind of boring yet I still kept wanting to read to find out what happened??(shrugging emoji)Thoughts: I would recommend this one for anyone who wants a very small sample of horror because this book is not that scary。 From the synopsis I was hoping to get more horror than I was given here。 If you want to get more spooked out while reading it I recommend listening to scary music in the background。-QuoteThere are no monsters。 Only people。-None Shall Sleep 。。。more

Randomly picked this up at the store bc i loved the cover and this was just a fun book to read。 It definitely gives off some silence of the lambs, criminal minds, slasher vibes to it。 If you like any of those genres you’ll enjoy this book。 Not anything mind blowing but just well done and enjoyable。

Yeah, I’ll need a second book, thank you very much! Also, the audiobook was awesome!

I mean。。。just phenomenal。 If you love Mindhunter and Silence of the Lambs please read this book! Perfect mood for spooky season and just the fast paced mystery thriller I needed to launch me out of a reading rut that has gone on too long。 The characters at the center of this story just felt so real and the kinship that builds throughout was comforting to see in such a stressful story。 So many good lines in this too, ugh just so so great。

Or is Emma just a part of Simon's dangerous and unpredictable endgame? The real question is what is this new killer's connection to Simon and is it too late to stop them? There is so much to unpack from this one book。 There are mind games, manipulation, trauma, horror, thrill, twists and turns, mystery and insane character development。 This book is bone-chilling。 It also gave me strong Silence of the Lamb vibes especially with the relationship between Simon and Emma, very much like Hannibal Lecter and Clarice。 The writing and plot is so clever and well thought out。 If you have a fear of serial killers then this book is definitely not for you! All those that love shows like Criminal Minds and movies like Silence of the Lambs then you are sure to LOVE this book。 。。。more

I'm gonna be honest - I enjoyed this *way* more than I should have, given that it's essentially Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon with less steps and no explicit cannibalism? I'm gonna have to sit on this one for a while, but I'm very glad that I read it。 I'm gonna be honest - I enjoyed this *way* more than I should have, given that it's essentially Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon with less steps and no explicit cannibalism? DNF at 25%I really tried to like this, but the strange writing pulled me out of the story every now and again。 She passes him the Dust-Off, and later, there’s a family dinner。I have no idea what passing someone the Dust-off has to do with the fact that there is a family dinner later…。And I thought that Emma, and especially Travis (only called Bell, even though he’s like 18 years old) acted a little strange。 Not like real people tbh。So I think this had a lot of potential, but it didn’t grab m DNF at 25%I really tried to like this, but the strange writing pulled me out of the story every now and again。 She passes him the Dust-Off, and later, there’s a family dinner。I have no idea what passing someone the Dust-off has to do with the fact that there is a family dinner later…。And I thought that Emma, and especially Travis (only called Bell, even though he’s like 18 years old) acted a little strange。 Not like real people tbh。So I think this had a lot of potential, but it didn’t grab me。 。。。more

Great book for true crime fans! Would have liked some more character development and insight- I think there's some really promising elements that can be incorporated in the sequel。 Enjoyable and fast paced。 That ending though- It broke my heart ever so slightly :( Great book for true crime fans! this book had mostly 4/5 star reviews but i give it maybe a 3。5 rating。 i heard if you like mind hunters and the silence of the lambs then this is your book, but honestly it was almost too similar to me, like too predictable for my liking。 i feel like after the first few chapters i just knew what to expect??? so maybe if you’ve never seen those movies/shows then you’d appreciate this more。 also i should note that i wasn’t invested in any of the characters… like not enough about them i feel like this book had mostly 4/5 star reviews but i give it maybe a 3。5 rating。 i heard if you like mind hunters and the silence of the lambs then this is your book, but honestly it was almost too similar to me, like too predictable for my liking。 i feel like after the first few chapters i just knew what to expect??? so maybe if you’ve never seen those movies/shows then you’d appreciate this more。 also i should note that i wasn’t invested in any of the characters… like not enough about them i feel like was given so i didn’t really care about them。 was finding myself ready to be done with this book because of how i already knew it would end 🤷🏽‍♀️ 。。。more

4。5 rounded up just because of one little thing and that's that i need this to be a series or at least a duology to bring Emma and Bell back together and deal with Simon again。 Everything about this was high intensity and exactly what I needed for a good thriller。 Fantastic。 Why isn't this book spoken of more? 4。5 rounded up just because of one little thing and that's that i need this to be a series or at least a duology to bring Emma and Bell back together and deal with Simon again。 Everything about this was high intensity and exactly what I needed for a good thriller。 Fantastic。 Why isn't this book spoken of more? 。。。more

This was amazing!! I love true crime and learning about serial killers, so this book was right up my alley。 I loved everything about this book, from the writing to FBI processes and more。 I loved finding out about clues and leads about the killer with the characters - it kept me very engaged with what was happening in the book。 And the twists and turns were epic and not expected。

HOLY SHIT THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anyways, this is the best book I have read in a long long time。 I read all of it in one sitting that's how gripping it is。 If you like true crime, or serial killers, Mindhunter, The Silence of the Lambs, or (one of my faves) The Female of the Species, this one is for you。I am a pretty reasonably consistent consumer of true crime and as many know, true stories can feel like fiction。 This is the opposite。 Emma, Travis, and Simon feel so real。 This sto HOLY SHIT THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anyways, this is the best book I have read in a long long time。 I read all of it in one sitting that's how gripping it is。 If you like true crime, or serial killers, Mindhunter, The Silence of the Lambs, or (one of my faves) The Female of the Species, this one is for you。I am a pretty reasonably consistent consumer of true crime and as many know, true stories can feel like fiction。 This is the opposite。 Emma, Travis, and Simon feel so real。 This story, the (meticulously researched) setting of Quantico feels so real。 Above all, this story also validates and reflects on the fear, rage, and violence inflicted far too often upon youth, in particular girls。As any true crime fan knows, often the genre focuses too much on the killers or the gruesome details of the crime, leaving the victims erased even further in their deaths。 However, Marney is very aware of this。 This is a story about and for the victims and the survivors。 This is easily the best YA book I have read this year。 I wish more people were talking about it。 I'm very very excited for the sequel Marney is currently writing。I will give a minor trigger warning。 This is pretty heavy for a YA novel。 However, the gore that inevitably follows serial killers could be far more descriptive than it was。 There is a lot of allusion to the violence that was inflicted on Emma and committed by Simon。 However, it isn't very graphically detailed。 。。。more

None Shall Sleep was definitely not what I expected。 This book pleasantly surprised me with its sophisticated writing style, avoidance of YA clichés and well developed characters。Reading this book felt as addictive as the TV series Criminal Minds, but way better because it was Young Adult fiction with a teenage, female main character so I could somewhat relate more。When I started this book I guessed that a great deal of suspension of belief would be required to enjoy the story because of the premise of the FBI recruiting an untrained teenagers to work on a new project just because of the fact that they are teenagers with relations to serial killers, BUT boy, was I wrong。 The somewhat unrealistic premise was well explained and justified and besides that, the rest of the book was quite realistic and extensively researched。 The writing style was just so amazing and it was definitely the right fit for the story and the genre as well as the dark, brooding tone。 Simple and clean with allusions to literature and poetry in quotes from the characters, absolutely brilliant! I also loved how the author let the readers know information before the main characters did。 It reallly added to the drama and suspense of the story。 And the subtext or hidden connotations in every description or piece of dialogue was amazing。Now the characters, another reason I was so addicted to this book。 I loved the main character, Emma, because her flaws were apparent and contributed to some of the setbacks and challenges she and her partner faced, but at the same time those characteristics came in handy too。 I loved how she wasn’t this super competent born-to-work-for-the-FBI Heroine, because that wouldn’t have been realistic at all。 She was a real teenage girl who endured trauma and was still dealing with the aftermath of it all and who definitely acted like a REAL teenage girl。 She failed like a normal human and had her emotions get the best of her like a normal human。 She wasn’t a ”i’m not like other girls“ character and she wasn’t some kind of ”raging feminist who actually lacks feminist values“ like some authors try to force down our throats。 She was iconic in her own way because of how real she was。 Her partner Bell? SUCH A SWEETHEART!!! I loved him so much, I smiled so hard when he they bonded。 I love how he treated Emma and his respect and softness for women, that made him able to work so well with Emma。 He’s so respectful and sweet and I loved the way he worked。 10/10 character plus the fact that he was latinx, LOVEEEE!!! <333Speaking of POC rep, I liked the fact that the character, Pradeep, was Sikh! I’ve literally never read Sikh representation in YA so far, even if he was just a minor character I thought it was great to see。Anyways, I wanted Emma and Bell together but by the end, I was actually happy the author didn’t go that way because it might have been cheesy or cliché and didn’t really fit the genre or story。。。 like they were both broken and traumatized, and trying to track down a killer, it wasn’t the time to fall in love。 Props to the author for not making their relationship romantic。 I loved their dynamic and their contrasting characteristics without the romance。。。 even though I felt some great chemistry between them, especially at the end。Agent Cooper? I didn’t really understand him but I liked how his relationship with Emma and Bell developed to the point where they were comfortable with each other and he gave them good advice, even sacrificing his job because he believed in them。 His death was a great twist that I didn’t see coming at all, but I just felt like Cooper’s death wasn’t that impactful。 I felt like we didn’t experience Emma and Bell‘s grief enough, perhaps because they both aren’t very expressive, or perhaps because I’ve been reading way too many melodramatic YA books lately? But I just wanted to see more of a reaction, more of an uproar。 I wanted Emma to break down for us or go back home or something BIGGER。 I just didn’t feel sad enough about it and I didn’t like that。 I could also have been due to the fact that Cooper didn’t really leave such a huge mark on the characters or the reader, maybe it would’ve helped to hear more about his personal life。 And, Simon Gutmunson: Why are the fictional villains always attractive??? I mean it’s not unrealistic because if they’re attractive they can get away with more stuff because of their pretty privilege and fake charm because he’s a psychopath too, BUT WHY??!! I didn’t really have a big problem with it because I guess television has made me used to it but it’s just something that lingered in my mind for a long time while reading, just a note, Simon is made out to be attractive because Emma finds him beautiful。 LIKE WHY。 I didn’t like that, but this is YA fiction people, of course the villain is going to be attractive so I wasn’t too surprised。 But I loved how the author made sure not to glorify Simon by showing us the thoughts of people who are against that exact glorification, especially Cooper。 I also applaude the author for giving Simon‘s character depth and making him a proper, fleshed out Person even if he is a sick, psycho killer。 I also love the addition of his sister so that we were able to see another side of him。Overall, this was the best crime fiction book I’ve read in a long time and it’s definitely a step up from most YA books right now。 Highly recommend, even if you aren’t an avid reader of crime fiction。 。。。more
